Expert gives tips on summer boiler maintenance

With the warmer weather, it can be easy to disregard your boiler, but Spares Direct’s Ryan McNicholl has said to Wales Online that doing a few simple things over the summer can potentially save you from forking out on expensive repairs when the weather turns colder again.

McNicholl said that at Spares Direct, they see common problems like the circulating pumps of gas boilers having issues and the oil tanks of oil systems getting water condensing in them due to the warmer weather. He suggests this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case, however:

“Regular maintenance not only prevents urgent issues like breakdowns, but also extends the lifespan of boiler parts and reduces repair costs. The summer period provides the perfect opportunity for routine maintenance, offering minimal disruption when we are least reliant on our central heating.”

He suggests turning the heating on occasionally for short periods in summer, even if you don’t necessarily need it, to prevent boiler components from seizing up due to inactivity. He also suggests that it is a good time to give your radiators some attention by bleeding out any trapped air, as well as checking each radiator for signs of any corrosion or leaks. Most importantly, getting your boiler serviced during summer will pick up many potential issues and optimise its efficiency.

All this should mean your boiler is fighting fit, ready for when the cold weather returns. Xgas can provide a boiler service in Chester and locations around the Wrexham area, so get in touch to arrange one today.
