Tips for saving money with central heating settings: part 1

Even with energy prices remaining relatively high for the foreseeable future, it is important for your home to be at least adequately heated, for both your physical and mental health. With this in mind, here are few tips to help reduce your central heating bills.

One of the easiest ways to save money on energy is to reduce the target temperature on your thermostat. This reduces the energy needed to reach the desired temperature, as well as the energy needed to maintain that temperature due to the reduced temperature gradient with the outside world. For every degree lower your thermostat is set, you are likely to be saving money on your energy bill.

Some people claim that it’s more efficient to have your heating on constantly, but in reality, this will always work out more expensive. If you have a programmable timer, you can optimise your settings to suit your schedule, such as setting it to turn off completely when you’re usually at work, and come back on about half an hour before you get home. If you have an older property that takes a while to warm up, you may prefer to set it to a lower temperature instead of turning it off completely.

Many older boilers are also much less efficient than their modern counterparts. Xgas offers boiler installation in Wrexham, Chester and the surrounding areas, so get in touch for a no-obligation estimate for a modern efficient boiler.
