7 easy tips for lowering your gas bill

High energy costs mean many households struggle to pay their gas bills. However, there are several things you can do to lower your gas bill.

Lower the water temperature

If the hot water coming out of your taps is too hot, you can turn down your boiler so that less gas is used to warm the water.

Turn the heating off

If you are not in the home, it may be smart to keep the heating turned off. Don’t heat unoccupied rooms.

Move the sofa

A sofa or other furniture next to a radiator makes heat flow less efficiently. Move them away from the radiators.

Move tariffs

If you are at the end of a contract for either a fixed or variable rate energy tariff, check whether switching tariffs works out cheaper, or search for a cheaper energy provider.

Upgrade your insulation

Better home insulation saves energy. Even inexpensive draught excluder tape on gaps in windows and doors makes a difference.

Buy a smart thermostat

Smart thermostats are designed to control heating with optimum efficiency, so this may be an option worth considering.

Have the boiler serviced every year

An annual boiler service by a registered gas engineer from their Wrexham base will make sure the boiler is not wasting gas.

If your boiler is over 15 years old, it’s probably not very energy efficient and may need replacing with a new one. However, you should never try and do this yourself. Xgas can carry out a boiler installation in Chester and many nearby locations should you need one.
