Cadent Gas, the UK’s biggest network for gas distribution, has revealed figures suggesting that around a third of households are not having their boiler service annually.
The research commission by Cadent found that 30% of surveyed UK households are only organising for their boilers to be serviced at intervals of two years or more, with 7% saying they don’t bother servicing it at all. An annual boiler service is recommended to ensure the safety, reliability and efficiency of the boiler, and it may be a condition of a boiler’s warranty.
Prior to the study, Cadent launched its “Services beyond the Meter” initiative to help vulnerable households use their gas appliances safely. It says it has trained 100 engineers to go beyond the company’s traditional obligations and provide various services to achieve this.
Cadent Technical Manager Earl Richards said the initiative exemplifies a compassionate and innovative approach to supporting customers as they struggle with rising prices. He added the company’s engineers are encountering distressing and:
“…frankly, quite dangerous stories every single day so these findings are not unsurprising. Safety is always our number one priority and it’s vital that people do not attempt to fix their own boilers and gas cookers or use faulty appliances and instead, seek support by a Gas Safe registered engineer.”
If you want to ensure that you don’t get caught out this winter by a faulty boiler, Xgas has pay-monthly care plans that include a boiler service in Chester and other locations around Wrexham, so get in touch to learn more.
