Common boiler mistake costing households thousands

Research carried out by a heating firm has found that many households are having to pay out for new boilers due to a commonplace mistake.

It’s generally recommended to have boilers serviced annually to ensure they are operating safely, reliably and efficiently. This is also often a condition of the warranty that comes with new boilers. Nevertheless, it is not compulsory for private households, so many people forget about it or put it off to save money.

This could end up costing much more, however, because it can lead to expensive repairs or possibly a need for a new boiler. The new research found that three quarters of condemned boilers could have continued operating if they’d been serviced and received basic maintenance. This means those households could have saved thousands and avoided the inconvenience of a boiler breakdown, which typically happens in winter.

An expert related to the research, Ben Price, said:

“The data tells a stark story. Most condemned boilers we encounter are typically 10–15 years old—units that could have lasted significantly longer with routine care. We’re essentially seeing homeowners throw away thousands of pounds because they’ve neglected basic maintenance. What’s particularly frustrating is how preventable these condemnations are.”

Servicing your boiler each year helps identify problems before they become a serious issue, as well as ensuring it is functioning safely and efficiently. Xgas offers a range of pay-monthly care plans, all of which come with an annual boiler service in Wrexham and nearby locations like Ellesmere Port and Chester.
