Don’t ignore ANY these boiler noises

If your boiler makes unusual noises, don’t ignore them as they can indicate that something needs fixing.

If you hear loud banging noises, this could be caused by excess air in the heating system. Bleeding the radiators could be a potential solution for this issue, but be sure to not attempt to fix a boiler yourself if you are at all unsure.

Gurgling noises are usually caused by low pressure or trapped air. Check the boiler’s pressure settings, which should be between 1 and 1.5 when switched off and around 2 when on.

If vibrating noises are heard, first check for loose screws and tighten them up. If not, call a heating engineer as something could be loose in the boiler.

Whistling noises may be caused by a buildup of limescale which restricts water flow. Rattling noises may be a sign of loose pipework, trapped air or debris. Humming could also mean there is a water flow issue. Any of these issues would need fixing by a professional.

Tapping or clicking sounds are probably caused by an ignition failure. You will need a Gas Safe engineer to repair this.

A faulty pump or fan causes buzzing or whining noises and requires professional help to fix it. A common fault in the heating system is a blocked circulation pump that creates a whooshing sound.

If you hear any unusual noises coming from the boiler or heating system, call out an Xgas heating engineer to your Wrexham, Chester or Oswestry home to fix the issue. Many boiler faults that cause noises are easily and quickly repaired by a heating professional.
