If you’re concerned about energy prices rising again later this year, you may want to consider a new one-year fixed deal from EDF that is priced at the same level of the current price cap set by Ofgem.
The new tariff will mean energy will cost £1,567 a year for the average UK dual-fuel household. Both new and existing customers can take advantage of the deal, but they will need to either have a smart meter already or agree to have one installed. There will also be an early-exit fee of £25 per fuel should you decide to leave the tariff before the one-year fix expires. Fixing your energy prices may of course end up costing you more, but current analysis is predicting a substantial rise in Ofgem’s price cap in October.
EDF’s director of retail, Rich Hughes, said that with prices in the wholesale energy markets currently falling:
“…we can lower our prices for a limited period of time and offer customers a deal which matches the current cap, which has dropped to its lowest level since Winter 2021. However, our Price Cap forecasting service predicts rises in the coming months, making this a great time to lock in.”
