Energy and Utilities Alliance publishes wish list

The Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) has published its list of what it believes should be priorities for the government, following the General Election on the 5th of July.

The trade body suggests that there should be a programme focused on efficiency improvements on a national scale. As a minimum ambition, the EUA says, this should include insulating the cavity walls and lofts of every UK home by the end of the next parliament. This will help minimise heat loss and thereby cut bills.

The EUA also said it would welcome transparent plans about the roles of hydrogen and alternative zero-carbon gases, and how the current gas grid may be used in future. It said:

“Any future government should give a positive signal on the role of hydrogen in heat decarbonisation at the earliest opportunity. [The] government has taken a strategic policy decision to support blending of up to 20 per cent in gas distribution networks, and we support the blending at the gas transmission level.”

The organisation also wants to see mandatory annual servicing for heating equipment. It says this will ensure that owners are informed about how to operate these systems efficiently, and made aware when equipment is outdated and suitable for replacement.

While getting a boiler service is not a legal requirement, very important to do so to ensure your boiler is working efficiently and safety, and to catch some potential problems before they arise. Xgas can provide a boiler service in Wrexham, so get in touch to learn more.
