The Financial Times reports that energy suppliers in the UK are developing a range of measures to provide extra help for UK customers over the winter.
While the worst of the energy crisis seems to have passed, energy bills are still much higher than pre-crisis levels. Ofgem’s price cap also went up by 10% from the beginning of October. Energy firms are, therefore, looking at a range of measures to support customers beyond their legal obligations.
Big suppliers and trade group Energy UK have been in discussions about the forms of support, as well as whether the UK Government will match their additional spending. One industry executive told The Financial Times:
“There’s a process under way, but there are some complexities that need to be bottomed out before you make an announcement.”
According to sources close to the discussions, firms are looking at various options, such as providing energy efficiency improvements, giving the option of debt-repayment holidays, and offering direct financial help. Nevertheless, firms apparently want to see permanent policies in place, such as tariffs especially for vulnerable consumers.
Energy efficiency is the best way to keep energy bills down, and replacing an old inefficient boiler with a modern condensing boiler can save a lot on your monthly heating bill over winter.
