Trade association Energy UK has put forth a set of recommendations titled “Mission Possible: Steps to Make Britain a Clean Energy Superpower” aimed at advancing technological innovation and reducing emissions while reducing retail energy costs for consumers.
The trade body wants to see rapid action taken to provide strategic guidance for those investing in renewable energy projects and relax regulatory barriers for developing these projects. It also wants to see the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, which is used to provide price certainty for renewable energy projects, to be modified to include large-scale projects by the end of the decade. It also wants to see domestic sources of energy prioritised to reduce the cost to consumers, as well as targeted support for vulnerable households in the meantime.
Emma Pinchbeck, the Chief Executive of Energy UK, said that the new Government could take a number of steps in the coming months to support the development of clean energy, adding:
“We also need to look at how we can help make bills more affordable for all customers—especially after a tough few years caused by the international gas crisis—and underline that fairness in how costs and benefits are distributed will be the guiding principle for the energy mission.”
The plan also wants to see wider benefits to society through improved energy efficiency. Xgas can help with this by replacing an older inefficient boiler with a modern boiler installation in Chester and other locations around the Wrexham area. Get it touch for a no-obligation quote.
