Most UK households prefer to keep using gas central heating according to a new survey of 2,035 UK adults actioned by YouGov for the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA).
The survey found strong support (69%) for meeting the UK Government target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions, yet only one in ten respondents said they had an alternative heating system or were considering getting one. Almost half (45%) said they were not considering switching from gas at all, with the remainder either not knowing or citing that they were not homeowners and therefore not in a position to decide.
There was strong backing for the government plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by blending hydrogen with natural gas, however, with 51% supporting it and only 11% opposing it. There was even stronger support (66%) for the plan to require all gas boilers sold after 2030 to be capable of being converted to run on a zero-carbon gas like pure hydrogen.
EUA CEO Mike Foster said about the survey:
“What is crystal clear is the support for keeping gas boilers and decarbonising the gas used. Blending hydrogen into the network is supported by a margin of five to one; having boilers fitted ready to use a low carbon gas, like hydrogen, is supported by a margin of seven to one.”
Xgas can provide a boiler installation in Wrexham and nearby places like Chester that will run on the proposed hydrogen blend when and if it’s implemented, so get in touch to learn more.
