Four clear signs your boiler needs fixing

Millions of Britons rely on their gas boiler to keep them warm in the winter. If a boiler is faulty, it’s important to spot this early and have it fixed to avoid more costly repairs. There are four main signs to watch out for that indicate a boiler fault.

1. Unpleasant smells

If there are bad odours in the home that resemble rotten eggs or metallic smells, the boiler is probably faulty. This could also mean that there is a gas leak and a danger of explosion. If you are worried about an unpleasant smell, it would be wise to call for an emergency gas engineer.

2. Unusual noises

Odd noises including whooshing, rattling and humming sounds coming from the boiler often mean there is a fault. This can be caused by limescale build-up, blocked air filters, trapped air or loose components. These should all be easily fixed by an Xgas expert heating engineer.

3. Water remains cold

If no hot water comes from the taps or the radiators don’t warm up when the boiler is on, this is an obvious sign of faults. There are several causes of this, including low water pressure, a faulty pressure valve, a broken thermostat and a faulty diverter valve. These common faults can normally be repaired fairly easily.

4. Leaks

Water leaks prevent the boiler from working properly. A common cause of leaks is corroded pipes that needing replacing.

An annual boiler service helps keep a boiler running well. Call Xgas to book a boiler service in Chester, Wrexham, Oswestry, Mold, or Ellesmere Port.
