The official body for registering gas engineers in the UK, Gas Safe Register, has published a video outlining the negative consequences that can arise if you fail to get your boiler serviced every year.
The video takes the form of a public service announcement with a tongue-in-cheek narration by actor Will Mellor, who you may remember from Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, and more recently the television drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office. It shows a man coming back from holiday to find an unheated home and not being able to shower before a job interview due to a boiler breakdown.
Research commissioned by Gas Safe Register revealed boiler breakdown to be the third most-cited inconvenience in life, with a quarter saying that it always seems to happen at the worst possible moment. Gas Safe Register’s Head of Professional and Field Services, Rob Denman, said this doesn’t need to be the case, however, because some advance preparation can reduce the odds of a breakdown:
“Getting an annual gas safety check can help minimise potential disruption to your household. It is a small investment that could save you thousands in repair bills further down the line, should something go wrong. More importantly, it gives you peace of mind that they’re in safe working order.”
