Households urged to set boilers to summer mode

Savings of 10% on heating bills could be made on a household’s heating bill just by pressing a button on your boiler.

Modern boilers generally feature two modes for the warmer and colder seasons. In summer mode, the central heating will not come on, short of frost protection, but the boiler will still provide hot water. In winter mode, both may be active. By activating summer mode, you can ensure that your central heating will not kick in unnecessarily.

If summer mode isn’t indicated in text, it will feature an icon that is indicative of summer, such as a full sun or a parasol. When you start to feel chilly again in the autumn, you can reactivate winter mode by pressing the relevant button. Similarly, this may be indicated by a winter-related icon, such as a snowman or a snowflake.

While this tip provides an easy, cost-free saving, property expert Natalie Mitchell, pointed out that while a new boiler can be a large one-off cost:

“…upgrading your boiler is the best way to ensure your home’s heating system is working efficiently and not wasting any energy. The older your boiler is, the more inefficient it becomes. Over time this can add up and cost you up to £350 extra a year than a newer model.”

You can also often spread the cost over finance options. Xgas may be able to offer a boiler installation in Chester on such terms, so get in touch to learn about the various options.
