Industry experts assert importance of keeping homes heated

Citizens Advice have stressed that it is important to be warm at home. The organisation has warned that switching off heating for prolonged periods in cold weather affects both your mental and physical health. It advises:

“You should keep your home warm enough so there’s less risk of your home becoming damp and you getting ill.”

The primary reason for not heating the home is the high cost of energy. Citizens Advice suggests several ways to reduce energy bills. Central heating systems usually have temperature setting and timer controls. Use them to keep the home feeling comfortable without being hotter than needed. If you feel a little chilly use a heated throw or blanket to feel warm enough. They only cost about 3p an hour to provide additional heat.

If you are unsure about where the heating controls are, go online to find the boiler instruction manual. The make and model of the boiler will be found on the boiler. You can find a manual on some Worcester boilers when you pull down the panel at the bottom of the boiler. This details what all the controls on the boiler do.

If you have a boiler that heats water stored in a tank, try lowering the temperature. Make sure that water is not heated when the home is unoccupied. The tank should be well insulated.

A hugely important measure to take is to ensure your is energy efficient. This can be checked by an Xgas engineer at a boiler service in Wrexham homes, as well as in many other local areas.
