The UK’s largest energy supplier, Octopus Energy, has launched a new marketing campaign saying it will continue to fight for consumers.
The new campaign follows the UK Government decision to not pursue zonal pricing, which would have divided the UK energy market into smaller regional ones. Proponents like Octopus claimed this would give cheaper prices to areas with ample renewable generation and attract industries to set up there. Not all within the energy sector supported it, though, with some players saying it could deter investment and raise energy prices further in some regions.
The customer experience head at Octopus, Pete Miller, said the price consumers paid for electricity was spiralling, despite the units being produced by renewables being cheaper than those produced from fossil fuels. He added:
“Consumers deserve cheaper energy—Zonal Pricing would have unlocked that value, and there seems to be no other clear plan to bring them down. We will keep fighting for our customers—pushing for viable solutions that can fix our energy system and finally bring bills down for good.”
Octopus says it will now ceaselessly campaign for a new plan to remedy the current system, which it says wastes energy by turning off wind farms.
With any meaningful changes to the UK electricity market likely to take some years, gas remains a competitive choice for heating. Xgas can install and service central heating in Chester and other locations around Wrexham with a modern efficient boiler fuelled by gas or oil. Get in touch to find out more.
