Energy regulator Ofgem has recommended that energy customers shop around as it raised its price cap for the second time in a row.
The price cap dictates the maximum that energy companies are able to charge customers on default tariffs, but customers can opt in to alternative tariffs. For example, it’s possible to fix your energy costs for a year or two years if you want, sometimes at a rate lower than the current price cap.
At the new rate from January, the average UK dual-fuel household will be paying £1,738 over the course of a year for their energy. While this is 10% less than the same quarter in 2024, and certainly far lower than in 2023, Ofgem accepted that some households may struggle. Speaking for Ofgem, Tim Jarvis said:
“We understand that the cost of energy remains a challenge for too many households. However, with more tariffs coming into the market, there are ways for customers to bring their bill down so please shop around and look at all the options.”
There are essentially two ways to reduce your energy cost. Finding a competitive tariff is of course important, but ensuring the energy efficiency of your home is also a factor. This could involve improving your insulation, but boiler efficiency is another important consideration.
Xgas can provider a modern boiler installation in Chester and other locations around the Wrexham area. While it is of course a large investment, finance plans are available, and you will save on energy costs in the long term compared to an old inefficient boiler.
