While rural households no longer have to worry about a ban on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) boilers until 2035, many may be concerned about the continued availability of LPG.
However, Liquid Gas UK says renewable liquid gases (RLGs) will provide a smooth transition to low-carbon heating without the need for expensive upgrades.
RLGs are made from household waste or other biomasses, which consume carbon as they are cultivated, so the lifecycle carbon emissions can be 90% lower than with traditional LPG. What’s more, because they have the same chemical properties as conventional LPG, they have the same convenient portability, and it’s simple to use them in existing boilers.
George Webb, the of CEO Liquid Gas UK, said that it’s important to realise that RLGs can be used as a drop-in replacement, adding:
“This means switching to RLG doesn’t require costly system changes as customers can continue using their existing boilers, pipework and appliances. RLGs can be blended with LPG, stored in the same cylinders and tanks, and transported as part of the usual delivery process.”
Oil boilers can also use renewable alternative fuels, such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). This contrasts with other low-carbon heating systems that can be expensive to install, especially as many rural homes are older buildings that may require substantial insulation upgrades and retrofitting.
With the future of oil and LPG boilers being assured, Xgas can provide an off-grid boiler installation in Wrexham and rural properties in the wider area. Get in touch today to discuss your needs.
