While the cost of energy remains stubbornly high as a whole, Scottish Power has launched a new initiative whereby customers can get half-price electricity at weekends.
The discount applies to energy usage between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. The aim is to encourage households to perform energy-intensive tasks like baking and washing during periods when there is least demand on the electricity grid. To participate, customers must have a communicating smart meter and agree to readings every half-hour. Although they will still be billed at the standard rate, customers will:
“…later have your bill credited for the energy you used. The credit is calculated as half of your electricity unit rate (excluding VAT) and will show as ‘Power Saver Credit’ on your bill. Your daily standing charge will be paid at your normal rate. See Terms and Conditions at www.scottishpower.co.uk/half-price-weekends.”
ScottishPower says shifting demand to off-peak times will help maximise the use of renewable power. With half-price electricity, customers may feel the chance to use more power than they initially would feel comfortable with. With this change, customers may also be able to help reduce carbon emissions by avoiding the need to fire up gas-fuelled power plants during peak periods.
Heating is, of course, something that you can’t simply confine to the weekends. Fortunately, modern condensing gas boilers have excellent levels of efficiency. Xgas can provide a modern boiler installation in Chester and other locations around Wrexham. Get in touch to make an appointment.
