Study shows oil boiler owners enjoying cheaper heating

When you live in an off-grid location, your heating options are more limited, but condensing oil boilers are actually the cheapest to run at the moment.

The latest data from the Sutherland Tables shows how much it costs to heat a typical three-bedroom home each year. While the prices of other fuels have remained volatile, oil has returned to pre-pandemic levels. What’s more, the cost of heating a home with oil dropped 6% over the last 12 months. It is now 10% less than with a gas condensing boiler, and 36% and 57% cheaper than with a condensing LPG boiler and electric storage heaters, respectively.

Malcolm Farrow of OFTEC, a liquid fuels trade association, pointed out that it was part of a long-term trend. What’s more, combined with a choice of payment options and rapid delivery, he said it’s a good time for oil users. He said the price of crude oil was getting lower, with it being:

“…driven by international markets, and consumers are feeling the benefits. It’s important to remember though that, despite this, in the current cost of living crisis, many households are still struggling with their fuel bills. Additional support is available for low-income households with more information on the OFTEC website.”

He also pointed out the importance of servicing an oil boiler annually to ensure its efficiency, safety and reliability. If you have an oil boiler, Xgas can provide a boiler service in Chester, Wrexham and other nearby locations, as well as install new boilers. Get in touch to learn more.
