A new gas boiler has a warranty lasting up to twelve years. In this blog, we’re taking a look at three common mistakes that could mean that a claim under the warranty is rejected.
Using a non-Gas Safe registered engineer
The Gas Safe register lists legally qualified engineers to work on gas appliances. The scheme replaced the CORGI registration in 2009. If a non-registered engineer mends or services the boiler, this could invalidate the warranty.
Failing to register the warranty
Not all boiler warranties are activated automatically after the boiler is fitted. Usually, the boiler owner is required to register the warranty within 30 days of the installation. This can be done online or by phone.
Failing to have an annual boiler service
If the boiler breaks down and there is no record available for the annual service, the manufacturer can claim that not having a service every year means that the risk of problems has increased. In these instances, may refuse to pay out a warranty claim.
Always check the terms and conditions of the warranty, what is covered and what exclusions invalidate the warranty. Some parts such as fuses and filters are classed as consumables and will not be covered. A warranty should include parts and labour, but some may exclude labour.
