Two unavoidable actions that risk invalidating a boiler guarantee

A new boiler comes with a warranty or guarantee that covers the cost of parts and labour if it needs repairing after installation. The boiler manufacturer provides a guarantee when the boiler has been installed by an engineer accredited by the manufacturer.

Though the guarantee is provided at no extra cost, if the following two actions aren’t completed, the guarantee could become invalid.

Firstly, the guarantee must be registered by the new boiler owner, usually within 30 days of the installation. This can be done online at the manufacturer’s website or by phone. You will be required to provide the boiler serial number and installation date. The engineer who installed the boiler may be able to do this for you.

Secondly, the boiler must have an annual boiler service. Without a record of each service, the guarantee could become invalid. If you book a boiler service in Chester through a reputable provider, you can arrange to be reminded when the next service is due.

Carefully read the guarantee’s terms and conditions to see if there are any exclusions. For instance, using an engineer without Gas Safe credentials for the service could invalidate the warranty.

A guarantee expires after a set period, but you can pay for cover to continue. The guarantee will probably not cover faults in the heating system that are not caused by the boiler. A complete Xgas care plan covers boiler services and repairs to most parts of the heating system.
