New research by Triton Showers has found that £915 million is being wasted each year due to people running the shower before getting in.
The study, which covered 2,000 UK adults, found that people spend 11 minutes in the shower on average. While 28% of respondents said they did think about wasting water when rinsing, 43% admitted they took longer than needed. Triton based its calculations on its own estimates of a typical shower with a mixer tap typically using 5.8 kWh to heat 132 litres of water. Only 33% of respondents said they had a vague idea of what showers were costing them.
Triton Showers’ sustainability manager, Daniel Lintell, said the country was:
“…in an unprecedented situation whereby, while the topic of water scarcity has never been more prominent, energy and water bills are exponentially rising too. As a result, it is crucial that homeowners are aware of the steps that can be taken to avoid wasting water and facing unnecessarily high bills.”
In terms of reported ways to reduce water waste, spending less time in the shower came highest at 44%, followed by not showering daily and not running the shower while preoccupied with something else, both at 27%.
While saving money on showers helps, the largest element of a typical energy bill is heating. Xgas can help by servicing an existing boiler or providing an efficient boiler installation in Wrexham and other locations like Oswestry and Chester.
