What does an annual boiler service involve?

An annual boiler service is recommended to ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of your boiler, and you may risk invalidating your boiler’s warranty if you skip it, but what does it involve?

The exact procedure may differ depending on the particular make and model of the boiler, but the Gas Safe registered engineer will begin by visually inspecting the outside of the boiler to look for any tell-tale signs of potential faults, such as leaks or corrosion, and check the boiler flame. He or she will then remove the boiler’s cover and inspect various key components, such as the spark probe, heat exchanger, burner and main injector.

The engineer will then perform a flue check to ensure that nothing is obstructing the flue terminals and that the flue is fitted correctly, because this will help to determine if your boiler is discharging any harmful emissions. They will then proceed to checking the gas pressure, as a boiler needs optimal gas pressure constantly if it’s going to work as it should.

Finally, the engineer will do some routine cleaning and fire up the boiler to run a series of tests to identify any potential faults. If there are, the engineer will report them to you, so you can decide what action to take. Xgas can provide a boiler service in Chester and other locations around the Wrexham area.
